Climate

If you enjoy your summer very warm and sunny, ("beach" weather as we call it here), your autumn so breath-takingly gorgeous so as to spawn its own tourism industry, and your winter white (skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating, anyone?), then Michigan's Great Southwest has your kind of climate. And spring isn't bad, either!

You may hear the term "lake effect" used in connection with our booming housing and tourism markets, as our resort-like community annually lures crowds of people from Chicago and other metropolitan areas, looking to capitalize on our lakeside lifestyle. Lake effect also aptly describes our weather, as westerly winds create a unique lake effect, tempering our region's seasonal temperature fluctuations. This cooling in the summer, and warming in the winter, combined with an average humidity rate of 52%, makes our region a comfortable place to live and work.

The average minimum temperature in July is 61 degrees, maximum 82 degrees, while the average minimum temperature in January is 18 degrees, maximum 32 degrees. Average annual rainfall is 37 inches, average annual snowfall is 70 inches. The agribusiness in our area enjoys 162 days of growing season. (Source: NOAA Climate Summary, 1995.)
